China - EcoWood

FMSA, in conjunction with Melbourne landscape architect Paul Hamilton, were invited to create “a forest in the city” for Pujiang Town south of Shanghai.

Officially known as the Large Scale Woodland development, the EcoWood project establishes a framework of ideas for planning the first 10km sq. stage of a green area development spread over a 60km sq. site on the eastern bank of the Huangpu River and designed to provide the city with a “green lung.”

The Development Framework addresses the following issues:

The re-creation of a traditional wetland and woodland environment to create an integrated natural habitat for a wide variety of indigenous plant and animal species and to provide a basis for human habitation.
Creation of a natural ecosystem with facilities for environmental education and research.
Creation of an ecotourism and nature based recreation destination focused on wetland habitat for migratory water birds.
The integration and economic revival of Duhang old town.
