China - QiDu

FMSA were joint winners of this international urban design competition in 2004 to design a commercial and entertainment hub, surrounded by residential housing and open green spaces on QiDu Island. The island is close to the new Wenzhou CBD, and will become a very strategic eco- residential location.

FMSA‘s urban master plan for the 12km sq. island emphasizes the principle of sustainable urban design and includes the following infrastructure to service a proposed population of 50,000 residents:

The installation of an innovative, AUSTRALIAN DESIGNED light rail system.
The integration of a water management system that uses canals and stormwater filtration, sewerage treatment and large-scale energy reclamation as well as water recycling.
Integrated commercial, educational, residential and eco-recreational precincts.

Wetlands, canals, marina and a golf course further enhance the ‘green’ environment. A number of existing villages are to be retained and upgraded. They will retain their original building scale and remind future generations of the island’s history.
