Project Portfolio : Government Projects : Latrobe Valley Police and Court Complex

Latrobe Valley Court Complex and Divisional Headquarters, Morwell Police Station
Latrobe Valley, Victoria

FMSA’s winning proposal to design the new Police and Courts Complex in Morwell is an example of the practical application, understanding and knowledge of the State government’s framework for urban renewal in the Latrobe Valley.

FMSA’s Masterplan skillfully balances multitudinous project specifications. These incorporate a large, new complex within the existing township of Morwell in a manner that is culturally and environmentally appropriate, while also meeting the particular requirements of the police and the justice department.

Effectively connecting the activities of the joint complex into the existing urban fabric of the township, a landmark building will emerge that will define Morwell’s CBD and civic precincts.

The design and structure respond to the core principles of sustainability and minimise energy consumption. Energy conservation is enhanced by the inclusion of environmentally sensitive design elements, including ‘green’ building materials, appropriate orientation towards the key aspects and outlooks of the site, solar access, wind protection and thermal efficiency.

As part of the consultation process, FMSA is following the principles of the Victorian Industry Participation Policy and honouring a commitment of the Bracks Government to optimise the use of local suppliers and content for economic development initiatives, adapting them to issues specific to the Latrobe Valley.
